The Wayne Economic Development Council (WEDC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Tom Pukys as President. Pukys will fill the position left vacant when Rod Crider departed after serving Wayne County for 12 years.
Pukys has been serving as President of Alliance Area Development (AAD) for Alliance, Ohio since 2004. In that role, Pukys oversaw comprehensive economic development, retention and business expansion, which included workforce development programs for the Alliance area. Prior to his economic development position, Pukys worked for the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Pukys holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration and Accounting from Malone College. He is credentialed as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), the highest certification in the profession, as well as a Certified Economic Development Financial Professional (EDFP).
“It’s an honor to join WEDC and I’m excited to continue Wayne County’s success story,” Pukys said. “There’s a fantastic culture of collaboration here, which is truly special and something that excites me. Wayne County is an exceptional place, and there are great opportunities for growth.”
“After an extensive nationwide search, we are thrilled to name Tom as our president,” said Scott Boyes, chairman of the WEDC search committee. “We were fortunate to have strong involvement and input from board members and community leaders, which culminated in a great hire. He is the right person for the job and a welcome addition to the community.”
“Tom will do a great job,” said WEDC Chairman John Crum. “He has over 10 years of experience in economic development and understands our mid-west values. I am very impressed with his collaborative nature. These skills will be an asset, as he works to retain and grow existing businesses in Wayne County and attract new ones in the future”.
Pukys and his wife, Jane, are parents of six children. He is active with community involvement, serving on the boards of Alliance Children and Families, Alliance Country Club, Early Childhood Education Alliance, and Incubox, a business incubator for start-up companies. Pukys is a member of the Business Advisory board for both the University of Mount Union and Stark State College, a member of Stark Workforce Committee and Rotary club of Alliance, and is also a volunteer for Junior Achievement. He is an avid tennis player, enjoys boating, and coaches various youth sports.
